Who is this course for?
The study of Maths or Applications of Maths is mandatory in S3/4 but all pupils will initially follow a common course in S3. Entry to this course depends on the learners ability shown throughout the Broad General Education.

In S2 October tracking, having secured:
Level 0E - Early Level achieved or better in Mathematics
Tell me some basic information about the course
Pupils who intend to follow a National 5 Math's pathway are expected to also take Applications of Maths Nat5. This provides an additional qualification for minimal additional input, strengthens the foundational skills for Nat5 Maths as well as providing a safety net should this be required. This course will cover Numeracy at all levels and is excellent preparation for work in the Senior Phase. This is essential for all courses in S3/4 as is the Statistics covered.
This course enables learners to acquire and apply operational skills necessary for developing mathematical ideas through symbolic representation and diagrams. They will select and apply mathematical techniques and will develop their understanding of the interdependencies
within mathematics. In addition, learners will develop mathematical reasoning skills and will gain experience in making informed decisions
What Skills will I develop?
Number, Money and Measure as well as collection and interpretation of data.
How will I be assessed?
There are 4 Mandatory Units of Mathematics National 4. All are internally assessed on a Pass/Fail basis.
