At our school, we believe that learning happens both inside and outside the classroom.
Recognising wider achievement allows us to celebrate the many talents, skills and experiences that young people develop through activities such as sport, music, volunteering, leadership, clubs, community involvement and personal interests. In line with Scottish education values, formally recognising these achievements helps build confidence, motivation and wellbeing, while encouraging pupils to develop important skills for learning, life and work.
By sharing and celebrating wider achievements in their various forms, we ensure that every young person feels valued for their individual strengths and contributions, helping them to become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors within our school and wider community. In gathering this information the school can also identify young people who are not yet taking advantage of, or do not know about opportunities available to them, allowing the staff to signpost young people to these valuable experiences.
To support us with this pupils can submit their wider achievements in exchange for Wider Achievement points for their house.
When a pupil makes a submission, the details will be sent to their primary parent/carer to confirm the submission. Once validated the points are credited to the pupil and their house.
We understand that some pupils may feel shy about their achievements being celebrated in public, so no individual achievements are shared without the consent of the pupil in question.
Pupils make submissions with the Pupil app which they can find on Glow.
