Who is this course for?
People looking to increase their understanding of Physics. Those interested in a career where a Physics qualification is required should take this.
What Entry Requirements are there?,
In S2 October tracking, having secured:
Level 02.B - Some benchmarks achieved at L3 or better in Science
Tell me some basic information about the course
How can we fire a rocket into space and know it will get to Mars? How do the police know the speeds of cars in accidents? Through studying, by research and experimentation, the physics of moving objects pupils will develop the skills needed to successfully study physics further.
Physics gives learners an insight into the nature of our world. It covers a range of the relationships that have been discovered through experiment and calculation, including those used in modern technology. There are 3 units: Electricity & Energy; Waves & Radiation and Dynamics & Space. This will develop analysis and numeracy skills through their application in real world scenarios.
What Skills will I develop?
Manipulating formulae, Presenting data & andalysis, Research and experimental skills
How will I be assessed?
The N5 Course Assessment has two components, both marked by the SQA: Exam 135 marks; Assignment 20 marks.
The Course assessment is graded A–D. Your grade will depend on the total combined mark for both Course Assessment components with the exam worth 80% and the assignment 20% (The raw results are scaled to give an 80:20 weighting). For N4, there is an assessment for each unit, a practical write-up and an assignment to be successfully completed.
If I was successful in this course, what qualifications could I go on and study?
Higher Physics, NPA Applied Science Level 5 or NPA Science Technologies Level 6.
What kind of career pathways could this qualification help me with?
Astronomy, Engineer, Medicine, Teacher
