Tell me some basic information about the course
In RMPS we allow pupils the chance to develop their own viewpoints through a range of Philosophical Questions. We cover 'ultimate questions' about God, life, the universe, free will, and Artificial intelligence (AI).
Pupils then develop their understanding of moral issues within society; focusing mainly on War and Conflict. This involves looking at religious and non-religious viewpoints of war, weapons of mass destruction and the lasting impacts of conflicts. Young people will develop their own opinion through of a range of debates and decision-making tasks.
In S4, pupils study the following;
One of the main world religions Judaism.
One of the Morality and Belief topics such as Morality and Relationships (which identifies LGBTQ+ issues, gender roles and equality)
A Philosophy themed topic of The Problem of Evil and Suffering. This covers questions such as 'If God is so good why does suffering and evil exist?' while also discussing religious viewpoints. We discuss what is meant by evil and if a person could truly be consider as evil. Pupils are given the opportunity to discuss various viewpoints in a respectful manner before expressing their own opinions.
What Skills will I develop?
Skills RMPS can support pupils in developing include; Empathy, Debating, Analysis, Evaluation, Compassion, Problem Solving, Leadership, Teamwork and Literacy skills.
How will I be assessed?
S3a assessments will be based on skills, e's +o's and benchmarks.
S3b they will complete national 5 style questions in class, for homeworks and closed
book questions. The exam is 80% and the assignment is 20%.

Higher RMPS, University - philosophy, sociology, religious studies, theology
What kind of career pathways could this qualification help me with?
Future Aspirations - Skills in RMPS are relevant in any future career path as they support students in becoming responsible citizens who can confidently put their beliefs into practice. Future career paths include; Teaching, Medicine, Law, Psychology, Translator and Police Force.
