Who is this course for?
People who are interested in science but for whom N5 or level 5 courses are not recommended, and have an interest in the role of science in the health sector.
What Entry Requirements are there?,
In S2 October tracking, having secured:
Level 0E - Early Level achieved or better in Science
Tell me some basic information about the course
Pupils will undertake a range of tasks across the three Science areas incorporating practical work and research tasks to further develop skills and understanding. Pupils will be asked to apply the skills learned to develop confidence in carrying out practical work with increasing independence and processing and presenting their results. This will involve using both their research and practical skills.
The course aims to develop knowledge in all three Sciences, develop laboratory skills, deepen understanding of the health indutry and prepare candidates for working in a science environment or furthering their studies.
The course consists of five units: Physics - Waves & Radiation; Nature's Chemistry; Science - Human Health; Science Practical Skills; Health Sector - Life Sciences Industry.
What Skills will I develop?
Practical skills, data interpretation and production, scientific reporting, researching, experimental design, lab safety
How will I be assessed?
Course assessment consists of end of unit assessments, successfully complete at least one experimental
report per unit and maintain a folio of evidence relating to classwork and practicals.
If I was successful in this course, what qualifications could I go on and study?
Provides entry to Applied Science NPA (L5).
