Changing a subject after choices have been made, even more so once study has begun, is a significant decision and will only be considered in exceptional circumstances, or where a student fails to secure the entry requirements (generally a C pass in a preceding related subject).
While every effort is made to provide a broad range of subject choices within an efficient timetable structure, some classes may already be full while others may have limited availability. Waiting lists operate for subjects; however, placement on a waiting list will only be considered where there are exceptional reasons for a change.
To help us determine whether a subject change is appropriate, possible and in the best interests of the individual student, please complete the following form. All requests will be carefully considered by the relevant Year Head and Principal Teacher of Guidance (PTG), within what is possible within the constraints of the whole school timetable.
The process for making a request involves a number of steps
Step1:
Submit a request using the form on the school's website.
Complete Subject Change Request Form
The link to this form can also be found on the school website under the Curriculum Menu, Subject Choice and Change request options.
If the request is for an empty column leave question 5 blank.
Please note that we have already added you to a reserve list for any subjects you are missing based on your 1-5 choices. Your request should therefore be for a subject which is showing as available in the relevant column. Please note that this is a snapshot in time and as requests come in the actual subjects available will change. When a subject change request is made your slot in the reserve lists is secured automatically, just like the 'take a ticket' systems which manage physical queues.
Step2:
We will review the change requests that come in, in order, and do all we can to make these choices work. This will include looking to swap your allocated classes to other columns if this would be of benefit to you. If we are unable to make the change requested work for you due to there being no spaces, your reserve request will stay in place so that if a space becomes available we can offer these to the pupil first on the list. If your request was not viable or would require you to lose a higher ranked subject the request will be archived. If we cannot secure you a place in a class based on your request we will get back in touch and ask you to make a further request. You may choose to make upto two requests to secure a space. We will treat these in order, and if the first request can be fulfilled, we will archive the second.
Step3:
If at any point a reserve request becomes available we will contact you (the young person) and ask if you still want the place. A prompt reply is required so that if you no longer want the space in that class it can be offered to the next person on the waiting list. When a reserve request is approved a confirmation email is sent to the pupil's glow account.
We understand that not securing a space can be a great disappointment, and this frustration can give rise to many questions about the process. A list of common questions and answers can be found on the school's website via this link:
